GBTBTV Commentary: NBA All Star 2021

For my first ever commentary vlog and since I am big basketball fan, I’d love to discuss last Sunday’s NBA All-Star event.

watch on my commentary YouTube vlog

A lot of people and even some players (like Lebron James) are not in favor of having an all star event because of a lot of factors like players needed this break due to season’s already tight deadline & having back to back games and also mainly because of the current pandemic that we are still having which risks many players in the event and can have a huge impact to the NBA season.

Why still have it then? I personally think that the event is a major source of revenue for the NBA and by not having it, may have a huge impact to the NBA league itself and its operation. And also, for the fan’s interest since this event is an NBA tradition which gathers major hype for the fans all over the world. So this year is very important that the NBA can recuperate for all the loss because of the pandemic and gain back league’s financial stability, and fans interest which I think the all-star players understands.

Skills challenge: Domantas Sabonis wins over Nikola Vucevic

The NBA All-Star first event was quite exciting as the 2 of the NBA’s most skilled centers battled it out for the title. But last 2020’s All-star skills challenge runner up came up the winner, Domantas Sabonis wins it over Nikola Vucevic. A close and quite an exciting one. And by the way, just for the record, he’s the 5th big man who wins it in 6 years.

NBA 3-Point contest: Steph Curry wins it over to Mike Conley in a close one.

Steph Curry of Golden State warriors which regards as the goat of all shooters, if not one of the best the game has ever seen wins the 3 point contest, in a close one versus Mike Conley of Utah Jazz. He becomes the only active player to win this competition twice which is such an amazing feat.

Slam Dunk contest: Anfernee Simons is the slum dunk champion over Obi Toppin

Well, in all honesty slam dunk contest felt like it gotten a bit boring after Zach Lavine and Aaron Gordon match in 2016. It was so great and unique competition between the two that it’s really hard to replicate in the succeeding years. I guess that’s the reason. Nevertheless, this year’s slam dunk battle gave a different vibe and I think Simons deserves it and has the upper hand over Toppin. But a big shoutout to Cassius Stanley for his first dunk which I think tops in all dunks made in the competition.

NBA All Star Game: Team Lebron takes the win over Team Durant

Obviously, Team Lebron has the advantage in this all star game given that Durant is unable to play for his team (due to hamstring injury) and also Embid (due to Covid protocols). And by the way, Lebron, Giannis and Curry in the same team? That’s fantasy team. Plus, Giannis can’t miss, 35 PTS 16/16 FG. Thus, makes him win the first ever Kobe Bryant MVP award.

Overall, even the game was lopsided in favor of Team Lebron, it was fun for the players and mostly for the fans like me. The event was indeed a success!

Happy birthday Kobe!

NBA is back | Playoffs is getting near!

I am so excited to share that my favorite sports, NBA basketball is getting near to its 2020 playoffs! Recently the NBA returned last July 22 to its abrupt 2019-20 season due to the pandemic in March. Although there have been changes in the setup which is quite weird particularly having a venue that has no physical fans, but only a few watching in the sidelines plus a few fans watching via digital screens – so players would somehow can still see fans in the side digitally.

Playoff Picture if held today

Eastern Conference
(1) Milwaukee Bucks vs. (8) Orlando Magic
(4) Miami Heat vs. (5) Indiana Pacers
(3) Boston Celtics vs. (6) Philadelphia 76ers
(2) Toronto Raptors vs. (7) Brooklyn Nets
Western Conference
(1) Los Angeles Lakers vs. (8) Memphis Grizzlies
(4) Utah Jazz vs. (5) Oklahoma City Thunder
(3) Denver Nuggets vs. (6) Houston Rockets
(2) Los Angeles Clippers vs. (7) Dallas Mavericks

My personal predictions

From the East, I think it’s going to be the Milwaukee Bucks, basically because Giannis is a monster on the floor and he’s proving that he is one of the elites or the MVP perhaps this season. He’s also continuously improving his game which is very scary for the other teams.

However, I am really rooting for the defending champs, the Toronto Raptors. Although they are the defending, they’ve become an underdog team after Kawhi left the team to go to the Clippers. But given this, they are still proving they are the Champs with the help of the underrated star like Kyle Lowry, the up rising star Pascal Siakam and the role player Fred VanVleet.

I also cannot eliminate the dark horse from the east, Miami Heat as they have a team depth and a bunch of role players who also can play like a star. Leading the team is Jimmy “buckets” Butler.

Looking from the Wester Conference, I still can’t decide from this 2 L.A teams, the L.A Lakers and Clippers as they are equally loaded with stars and role players. With Lebron James leading the Lakers together with Anthony Davis, I think has a very slight edge towards the Clippers lead by Kawhi Leonard with Paul George as his co-star. It will be such an action pack matchup when they meet hopefully in the conference finals.

Post parting words

As a fan, I am really thankful that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the NBA decided to continue its season and it is really a blessing for us, fans as we can again experience the enjoyment and fun that the sport gives. I really hoped and prayed that other sports can also go back soon. But, ultimately our priority should always be the safety of the player, people behind the sports and the fans. Let’s hope the pandemic will end soon once the vaccine arrives in the very near future…

An emotional NBA2k21 cover, Kobe & Gigi ❤

I’d like to share a short post regarding the most interesting and emotionally driven NBA2k21 official cover. It’s Kobe and his daughter Gigi ❤.

Credits to NBA 2K21 for this amazing cover photo

As a fan of Kobe, these tribute from best game makers, PlayStation and Xbox is really commendable. The game itself is already exciting to play but seeing this makes it more worth to buy and play because of the people behind this are true people who can recognize greatness and Kobe’s unmatched contributions to the game of basketball.

The NBA 2K21 will be released on September 4, 2020, on PS4 and Xbox. Also they are going to have a special Mamba Forever Edition to honor the late Kobe Bryant.

Thank you for reading this short post I’ve shared as a fan, to all of his fans and who loves the Basketball. Let’s support this one and I hope this pandemic will end soon so that sports, basketball in particular can get back to what is normal.

Netflix’s Michael Jordan “The Last Dance”, Let’s talk about it

Disclaimer: This is not a review nor a debate. I’m just a fan of basketball who wants to talk about it 🙂

I am a basketball enthusiast ever since I was a kid. I am right in the era of Kobe so I might be a little bit bias, but I will try not Ko Be 🙂
I used to play basketball and remember collecting nba cards then putting those into an album. That is during the late 90s, I think.

I am a fan of both MJ and Kobe, but watching netflix’s the last dance, I am seeing a lot of resemblance in their style of play, work ethic, passion, motivation and most of all, the strive for greatness. Watching the series, which is now on its 8th episode, I’ve become more fan of Jordan mainly because how he have handled everything that came to his life. From the struggles, injuries, challenges, death of his father, retirement and coming back from it. Basically being an icon – he handled it with class.

Here’s my favorite excerpt stories from the series:

Early retirement, tragic death of MJ’s father

One of the saddest part in the series is that when his father died tragically. After he won his first 3 championships, the struggle for him to continue playing basketball was lost at some point and one of the reasons that triggered his early retirement. But an inspiring story to this is how he was able to get back on track, find his passion back and came back even strong as he ever was. He actually won another 3 more nba championships!

A hell of a team mate

MJ’s mentality is superb. One of his quotes in the episode is saying “My mentality was to go out and win, at any cost”. With this mentality, he’s approach towards his team mates was impacted to the point his being tagged as a$$hole. He talks trash to his team mates whenever he sees mistakes in the practice, mostly in the actual game. One of his team mates, Will Perdue said “he was an a$$hole and a jerk. He crossed the line numerous times. But as time goes on, and you think back about what he was actually trying to accomplish, you were like, Yeah, he was a hell of a teammate”. I think MJ didn’t really want to do it because he wants to do it, looking like a bad and bully teammate. It is just what he thinks it takes to be a successful from which we all see that is now in the history books.

Unpretentios, appreciative with is teammates

One of MJ’s quotes in the series which strikes me is when he said “Whenever they speak Michael Jordan, they should speak Scottie Pippen. When everybody says, well, I won all these championships- but I didn’t win without Scottie Pippen. And that’s why I consider him my best teammate of all-time.” MJ gives the credit where the credit is due even if it actually looks like he’s too dominant in his era and can win championships whoever his teammates are.

The GOAT, Greatest of all time

For me personally, he’s is the current “The GOAT” or “The greatest of all time” if…

  • We talk about the staying power of a basketball player. He’s absolutely still relevant now and have been for so long of any basketball player.
  • We talk about a basketball player turned businessman. He’s air 1 shoes have been dominating the basketball shoes market and its sales were crazy. He both achieved success in that 2 areas which is amazing.
  • We talk about the richest basketball player. He has his own airplane, yacht, shoe line, nba basketball team and a lot more to mention.
  • We talk about the skills, how he wins the championships and how he dominates the era.

If we associate all the factors above, clearly it’s Jordan. BUT if we are gonna talk about basketball skills alone, Kobe is the GOAT and Jordan only the second 🙂 I’ll explain this on my next basketball blog.

Post parting words
